Mike Brooks (Skip)

Director of Player Development

The T-Jacks Skipper was drafted as a shortstop by the Minnesota Twins out of West Covina (CA) High School in 1968 where he was honored as San Gabriel Valley High School Player of the Year. Mike enjoyed an eight-year professional career with the Twins and Indians organizations and earned a spot on the Twins Major League Roster in 1970 and 1972. Mike has coached at the professional, college and high school levels. Mike now owns and operates the Diamond Players Baseball Training and Development Academy in Tacoma and coaches the NW Timberjack’s Junior Olympic teams (16U, 14U), Pacific NW Championship teams, Fall High School Scout Teams and the NW teams at the Fall Arizona Showcase and Baseball Americas Perfect Game tournament in Florida. Skip works with all of the T-Jacks during the fall and off-season and is the primary hitting and infielding instructor.

Matt Whitehead

18U College Prep Team Assistant Coach

Matt was a four-year varsity letterman in high school, playing his freshman year at Franklin Pierce and then three years at Bellarmine Prep starting as a catcher and pitcher. After graduating from Central Washington University, he was the pitching coach for two years at S.E.R.A. High School in San Diego, CA and has coached for the past six years at the TBI baseball camps in Ephrata, WA. Matt is currently a sixth grade teacher in the Puyallup school District and the assistant varsity baseball coach at Graham-Kapowsin High School. This is Matt's 5th year with the Timberjacks.

 

 

 

 

Justin Fanony

18U College Prep Team Assistant Coach

Coach Fanony was a three-year letterman at Lakes High School graduating in 1998. During his high school years, he participated in the 1996 Junior Olympics and the 1997-98 AAU National Championships. He then played two seasons at third base for Southwestern Oregon Community College. Justin has coached in the Timberjacks organization for four years.

 

 

 

 

John Mattson

18u College Prep Team Pitching Coach

John graduated from South Kitsap High School where he was a 3-year varsity letterman and "All State" selection his senior year. John's high school career includes playing select baseball for US Bank and the West Sound Baseball club; playing on the Seattle Mariner's Fall Scout team; and representing the Northwest at the National Area Code games and at the Junior Olympic tournament. John was drafted out of high school, but chose to play college baseball at Tacoma Community College where he was drafted again by the New York Mets. He played three years in the Mets' system followed by one year in the independent Texas-Louisiana League. This will be John's 6th year coaching for the Timberjacks.
